SHALLOTTE—“I want a chalupa, a burrito, a Crunchwrap Supreme and two soft tacos with hot sauce.”
These words will be heard in Shallotte on Monday as Taco Bell officially comes to town.
The highly anticipated opening of the new Taco Bell location on Main Street in Shallotte has been announced for 5 p.m. Monday, May 9.
While the opening is technically a soft opening, they expect to be busy. A grand opening event will be planned for the near future.
“We have already alerted local law enforcement. We don’t want to back up traffic,” said Ben Goetz, vice president of development for Family Foods. “The city has been so great to work with.”
The store will be open 10 a.m. until midnight Sunday through Thursday and 10 a.m. until 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturdays.
“We hired 40 people for the opening and hope to keep them all summer,” Goetz said.
While the construction phase was under way, employees have been trained in Taco Bell locations around the region.
“If we had known the building was going to be constructed so quickly we would have been ready to open two weeks ago,” Goetz said. “But the equipment was staged for a May 9 opening.”
The building was constructed in 75 days by the Wilmington based Environments Unlimited Inc. under the eye of John Cockrum.
“Environments Unlimited is a LEED-accredited commercial general contracting firm which specializes in design within franchise food industry,” Goetz said. “This is one of the prettiest buildings we have.”
The building was constructed with a green design.
“Although these measures do add to building costs, Family Foods Inc. believes in being a good environmental neighbor by reducing their overall carbon footprint,” Cockrum said.
Not only is Goetz excited to see Taco Bell open from a business aspect but also from a personal one.
“We can’t wait,” he said about his family who vacations in the area. “We are excited to have it as an option. My kids love Taco Bell.”
Goetz grew up spending summers in Ocean Isle Beach and Shallotte. He now shares his love for the area with his family, as they are frequent visitors to Holden Beach.
